Your thoughts

I am really interested in hearing your feedback about this blog. I welcome your thoughts and opinions about the issues covered such as in-tunnel filtration and pollution.

There is no doubt pollution is having a detrimental impact on the health of Sydney residents. The Woolcock Institute of Medical Research is continuing to study the impact of the Lane Cove Tunnel on the respiratory health of residents. The findings will be interesting, especially considering Epping Road will soon be narrowed to one lane each direction, forcing traffic into the tunnel and pumping out more toxins into the air resident's breathe. Concern about unfiltered pollution will not die down until tunnel stacks are filtered.

Now over to you - do you think in-tunnel filtration is a necessity? Should Australia have better air quality standards and monitoring? Before reading this blog did you realise how dangerous the health-impacts of pollution are? Does it surprise you that twice as many Sydneysiders die from air pollution than car accidents? Does the public have enough information about these issues? What more could be done?

Shame on the government for refusing to filter our tunnels! This is poisoning the entire population, especially those poor residents who live near the tunnel's stacks. We need to keep insisting the government do better. I am shocked to learn from this blog how dangerous the pollution levels in are in Sydney, I think people don't realise how bad the pollution is and what harm it's doing.

What's needed? Stricter air qual standards!! Filtration!! More $$ into health services! Lazy people stop using their cars unless necessary! Car pooling! The government must act now!

This is a serious concern to all living in the area. Unfortunately, most of us feel powerless. The Federal Government did agree to provide funds for the filtration of the Lane Cove tunnel, but the state government said that the money will be used for other projects instead. What can we do?

Building road tunnels is a great idea, but the fact that the government has allowed them to be built without adequate filtration is a scandal and totally without regard to the health of those both using the tunnel and the residents in the surrounding areas. Not only is it bad for adults who are healthy, and terrible for those with respitatory problems but it is totally unacceptable for childrens bodies to be exposed to these pollutants.
we all have to keep pressuring the govt to remedy this situation - the cost to health not to mention the future monetary cost to the health system is deplorable.

I'm really angry about the narrowing of Epping Rd. It takes me so much longer to get to my parents & my partner cannot even use the tunnel get to work, but is forced to sit in heavy traffic every day, as are all his colleagues. What have we done to deserve this treatment by the government? They are supposed to improve our roads not use our money to make them worse. I will not be voting for the Iemma government at the next election.
